Cricket Season

Mr Ford, 7 Jun 2019

Both our Y5 & 6 Boys & Girls teams took part in Kingston Borough Kwik Cricket competitions this month

Cricket Season

Cricket is a popular sport at St Joseph's and these competitions are eagerly anticipated with lunchtime training and warm up matches organised prior to the event. Both teams had been working hard to be fully prepared. The boys had two exciting group games which they won the 1st game was won narrowly by 6 runs and the second game a more comfortable affair winning by 20 runs. This set up a quarter final showdown with Lovelace who we had previously lost to in a friendly. The boys battled hard and couldn't quite reach the target set by Lovelace with the bat resulting in a loss by 30 runs. The boys can be proud of reaching the quarter finals as Lovelace went onto to win the competition.

The girls played extremely well throughout the morning, they had a baptism of fire as they met Holy Cross Prep in the 1st group game. The level of cricket was very good with Holy Cross batting 1st and scoring an impressive 280 runs, St Joseph's had 4 dropped catches that would have made a real difference to the scoreline. Nevertheless St Joseph's came out to bat knowing they needed a big total to win, runs where very hard to come by with Holy Cross bowling brilliantly. A few silly outs cost SJP valuable runs that could have made a difference in the scoreline. Eventually the last ball was bowled and St Josephs finished on 240 meaning Holy Cross won by 40 runs we where made to rue those missed catches. SJP won the 2nd game in the group comfortably by 68 runs but unfortunately didn't progress into the quarter finals. Similarly the girls can be proud as Holy Cross went onto win the competition.

WELL DONE BOTH TEAMS   #TEAMSJP
