Cross Country Family Cluster Event Oct.18

See how we got on at our family cluster Cross Country event.

With having been rained off last month, Thursday saw the running of the Wales High School Cross Country event. Over the past years we have improved our performance having risen from 1 person qualifying in 2015 to last year having 6 pupils qualifying for the Rotherham Schools Finals. The even consists of teams of 20 pupils. This is made up of 5 boys from under 9 and under 11 age group and 5 girls from under 9 and under 11 age group. 

We went into the event with high hopes as always and our pupils made us very proud. First came the under 9 boys. With a man down due to a last minute injury, the 4 boys gave it their all. All the boys finished in the top 20 with James finishing an incredible 6th place. Next came the under 9 girls. With a full squad of 5, they gave it everything. Again, all finishing in the top 20 places and Jasmine finishing in 6th. 

Next we moved onto the under 11 age category. Sam, now in Year 6 finished 9th last year running as a year 5. Running in his respective age group, he had high hopes. Sam ran a perfect race. He paced himself for the duration of the race, running in 9th place. Then, heading down the back straight (300m) to go, he put of the after burners and made 3 places, finishing well in 6th. All the other boys places again in the top 20. An incredible achievement by all as this year the distance was made longer. Finally, onto the under 11 girls. All girls started brightly with them running in the top 15 for the first lap. Unfortunately, the distance got to some of the girls with Izzie finishing in 6th and the other girls inside the top 30. 

I think on Thursday, 6 was our lucky number with all 4 of our pupils who have qualified for the Rotherham Finals (finish inside the top 10) all finishing in 6th place.
