See how our under 11’s got on at our Hockey Festival

Wales High School Hockey

Recently, we took 2 teams to the under 11 Hockey Festival at Wales Hugh School. It was only the second time ever we have been to a hockey tournament (it’s not very big in our school) but our pupils were really looking forward to it.

With the weather turning during the day, the tournament was moved into make sure all pupils were kept safe and had their fingers by the end of the evening. By doing this it meant the tournament would be split into 2 pools and then play a final to have an overall winner. With taking 2 teams, it meant we were in with a good shout of getting into the final. Doubling our chances if you wish.

Let’s start with Team A. They started well against a strong Todwick team, leading 3-0 after only 5 minutes. However, a spirited comeback performance from Todwick saw them score 5 goals without reply to win 5-3. Next came Hillcrest. A fiercely fraught battle began and the game finished all square at 2-2. Finally, the last game against Harthill. This saw us come out of the block fast and take a early 3-1 lead with a hatrick from Owen R. It was a close finish at the end of the game with a late goal from Harthill saw Thurcroft come through 3-2 winners. A great performance from everyone in Team A.

Next let’s see how Team B got on. It was a shaky start to the tournament against Kiveton Park. With little tournament experience we went 3-0 down inside 2 minutes. However, with a good team talk from other players, the team rallied together to score a late goal to lose 3-1. Next came our game against Harthill
