Devon County Winter Games

A brilliant day had by competitors and spectators alike in Torbay. The sun was shining, the air was alive with anticipation and the children were well and truly ready!

Devon County Winter Games

What a day in Torbay at the Devon Winter Games this week.  Our girls and boys team from year 4 and our boys team from year 6 all qualified back in October at our Pymouth cross country championships to go forwards to compete against the fastest teams from all over Devon at the Devon Winter School Games.

A very early start saw us travelling all the way to Torbay to take part where our teams had to run the grueling course which consisted of hills, changes of surface, around a lake and a distance of 1.2 miles, thankfully the sun was shining on us as our teams raced around the course and all our runners made it round in great times. There was always going to be some tough competition there, but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of our runners, even when Sophie lost a shoe in the mud! Some fantastic finishing places all around but a special mention has to go to Azad who raced home in 6th position in the year 6 boys race and Phoebe who finished in an amazing 10th place in the girls year 4 race.

After the huge effort of running their races, they were then treated to a huge range of fun activities for them to try out which incuded fencing, BMX,  throwing and parachute run ( a favourite of myself and Mrs Edwards!)

After an exhausting day of fun in the sun, we headed home on the coaches back to Plymouth wearing our T-shirts with pride.

A huge thank you to Plymouth Schools Sports Partnership and Active Devon for the organisation of the day. It is a truly special thing to be surrounded by so many children challenging themselves and developing their love of sport and fitness for life.
