School Games Award For 2017-18
Our school was presented with the Gold School Games' Award for the
fourth consecutive year! It is wonderful that Whitehall has been recognised for the
fantastic work we do in P.E. and sport and the great progress we make each year; this
really does show that sport and leading a healthy lifestyle is embedded into our daily life
at Whitehall. Now that we are eligible to achieve platinum, we must strive to achieve
even more next year.
PE Lessons
With an expanding school, we were pleased that we could provide every child in the
school with two hours of curriculum time PE every week. I has been great to see classes
taking the recent warm weather as an opportunity to take part in additional physical
activities. This year in PE lessons, the children have tried a range of sports during
'invasion games' and 'over the net' modules. Through indoor PE lessons, every child has
had the opportunity to take part in dance, gymnastics and fitness activities. The structure
of our lessons provide children with opportunities to develop leadership skills and
teamwork skills in competitive scenarios. Through a combination of PE and PSHE
lessons, the children have been educated on the principles of leading healthy and active
lifestyles.
Sports Coaches
It has been fantastic working with Clubsport for the first time this year. The Clubsport
coaches have delivered a wide range of out of hours sports clubs throughout the year,
which have proved to be popular and successful. Thanks to Clubsport, we have been
able to offer our children new sports opportunities such as fencing, archery and tri-golf.
This year we have continued to provide tennis and cricket clubs by employing local
coaches. All the clubs that have ran this year have been greatly beneficial for the
children and it has been great to see them develop their skill set from high quality out of
hours teaching.
As well as providing out of hours coaching, Charlotte, Stephen and Chris have taught
lessons during curriculum time. This has allowed those children who do not attend sports
clubs the opportunity to benefit from working with professional coaches. A number of
Whitehall teachers have worked alongside Charlotte and Stephen from Clubsport to
develop personal skills in teaching a range of sports.
Squad Training
In addition to the sports clubs delivered by professional coaches, a number of Whitehall
staff have given up their time to provide sport squad training sessions. From these
sessions, Whitehall children have the opportunity to represent the school in inter-school
competitions in the following sports; Football, Netball, Cross Country, Swimming, Rugby,
Rounders and Athletics. It has been great to see the children put the skills they learn in
training into practise in a competitive setting. We are very proud of how our children
represented the school and the high level of sportsmanship they displayed at every
competition.
Between the squad training run by Whitehall staff and the clubs delivered by
professional coaches we have successfully provided our children with a huge range of
opportunities to be active, enjoy sport and learn new skills.
Swimming
At Whitehall, we see swimming not only as a great way to stay healthy and active, but as
a fundamental life skill. To help prepare children for life outside the classroom, we have
provided Year 4 and 5 children with regular swimming lessons throughout the year. By
introducing swimming lessons at an earlier age, compared to previous years, we hope to
see an increase in the amount of children who can swim 25m by the time they leave in
Year 6.
The Year 6 cohort of 2017-18 would have undergone regular swimming lessons in the
academic year 2016-2017.
73% of those Year 6 children could swim 25m unaided.

best of their ability in a game which I think is the best I have ever seen in my time as a
teacher. It was a tight game throughout with the lead always changing hands. Even
though we lost, it is a game all of the players should be really proud of!

Girls' Netball Rally
On Saturday 24th February, we took two teams to take part in the District Girls' Netball
Rally which was held at Ryefield school. Both teams played very well throughout the
group matches of the competition but unfortunately only our A team qualified for the
quarter finals. Their quarter final match was against Oak Farm B and our team won that
match 12-0. Their semi-final match was against a very good Hermitage side who beat
us 7-2 and it was Hermitage who went onto win the whole competition. Due to the A
team's wonderful performance, they came away with bronze medals and also qualified
for the Borough Girls' Netball Competition! All sixteen girls who played on Saturday did
very well and we are very proud of all of their performances in their matches and great
sportsmanship!

Borough Girls' Netball Rally
On Wednesday 7th March, our eight successful girls, who won bronze medals at District
Girls' Netball Rally, represented our school in the Borough Girls' Netball Rally which was
held at Newnham school. We were one of the top twelve schools in the borough who
were there to compete against one another to see which school would progress on to
represent the Hillingdon Borough at Crystal Palace in July. The girls played well in all of
their matches and showed amazing sportsmanship throughout. Unfortunately we did not
progress to the semi finals of this competition but we had some very good games. The
results were as follows:
Whitehall = 1 Ladybanks = 2
Whitehall = 0 Newnham = 5
Whitehall = 2 Oak Farm = 0
Whitehall = 0 Dr Triplets = 2
Whitehall = 3 Hayes Park = 0

Mixed Netball Rally
On Saturday 10th March, we took two teams to take part in the District Mixed Netball
Rally which was held at Ryefield school. Both teams played very well throughout the
group matches of the competition but unfortunately only our A team qualified for the
quarter finals. Our B Team played exceptionally well in all of their matches and we are
very pleased with the progress they have made in their play this year. Team A's quarter
final match was against Hermitage A and our team played amazingly well in what was a
very tight match. Unfortunately we lost that Match 5-4 and therefore did not progress to
the semi-finals. However, it was Hermitage that went on to compete in the final so that
just shows how well team A played in this competition. All fifteen who played did very
well and we are very proud of all of their performances in their matches and great
sportsman
ship!

Boys' Netball Rally
On Monday 19th March, we took a team to take part in the District Boys' Netball Rally
which was held at Ryefield school. The boys played very well in all of their group
matches:
Winning 8-0 against Oak Farm 'B'
Losing 5-2 against St. Bernadette's 'A'
Winning 8-0 against Hillingdon 'B'
Therefore they qualified to take part in the quarter final match against Hillingdon 'A'. Our
team played amazingly well in what was a very tight match. Unfortunately we lost that
match and therefore did not progress to the semi-finals. However, the two matches
which our boys did lose were actually against the two teams who reached the final -
which shows how well they played in this competition.
All eight who played did very well and we are very proud of all of their performances in
their matches and great sportsmanship!
Los Angeles Rams Visit
On Thursday 19th October, we were extremely fortunate to have the Cheerleaders from
the Los Angeles NFL team visit our school. For the two classes with the best
attendance, the cheerleaders showed off some of their amazing moves; taught a routine
and took part in a Q&A session. The morning was thoroughly enjoyed by children and
staff alike. GO RAMS!
Daniel Lewis Visit
On Friday 1st February, we were very lucky to be visited by Daniel Lewis, a GB Triple
Jumper who competed in the common wealth games in 2014. Every child took part in a
fitness circuit where they were give a huge amount of encouragement from Daniel,
Sportivator (Omar) and WJS staff. It was excellent to see the children so enthusiastic
about fitness; they clearly enjoyed the experience. Daniel then led a fantastic,
inspirational assembly where he explained his journey as a triple jumper thus far. Daniel
demonstrated some of his training exercises and some children were chosen to replicate
these. Even a few lucky staff members were chosen too!
Thank you to all who have already began to bring in Sponsorship money. The money
raised will help our school to buy sports equipment for PE lessons and will help fund
training and equipment for GB athletes. A very worthy cause!
Swimming
Congratulation to the six children who competed in the District Swimming Gala last night
(15/03/18). The children swam exceptionally well in the following events; Freestyle,
Breaststroke, Backstroke Medley Relay and Freestyle Relay. Miss Costa and I are
extremely proud of everyone who competed. A particular well done to Niharika for
winning Gold in the Individual Girls Breaststroke and Riaz for winning the Silver medal in
the Individual Boys Breaststroke. Thank you to all the parents for coming to support your
children and the school.
QuadKids
On Wednesday 9th May, eight children from Years 5 and 6 competed in the annual
Quadkids athletics competition and Hillingdon Athletics Stadium. Each child took part in
four disciplines: sprint, long jump, vortex howler and 800 metres run. Each child
performed well in their events and we were thoroughly proud of them all.
Tag Rugby
At Whitehall, we are extremely pleased to see that Tag Rugby has continued to be
popular for boys and girls alike. The children attending this year's club
thoroughly enjoyed the training sessions and demonstrated a huge amount of progress
in both the skills required to play the game and tactics to be successful in competitive
matches.
On Monday 14th May, Whitehall hosted the annual Year 4 & 5 Tag Rugby competition
for the Uxbridge District. Once again, the event was a huge successful and it was a
delight to see Tag Rugby be played to such a high standard in the district. This year we
entered two mixed teams to the competition. Both teams played really well and did the
club and the school proud.
Health and Fitness Week
This year's Health and Fitness Week was hugely successful and I thank all the children
and staff for immersing themselves in all of the activities. Our week got kick-started with
A-Life, who delivered a workshop to each class on a variety of healthy living topics from
cleaning your teeth and eating healthy to how to keep your body active. Following on
from the workshops, each class was given the opportunity to create a healthy snack and
try a variety of different fruits during this week. Children each competed in a fitness
competition where they had to complete three sets of a range of bodyweight exercises to
work out every muscle. It was great to see the children participate fully and to see their
competitive side come out. The exercises completed can easily be completed at home
which means children can bring the learning they have experienced this week to their
lives outside of school.
This year we were very lucky to have a brand new activity for Health and Fitness Week.
Rock Climbing! Yes that's correct, every child had the opportunity to go rock climbing at
Whitehall. On the last two days of Health and Fitness week, were were visited by a
mobile climbing wall and every child had a go at being adventurous. It was fantastic to
see children and staff alike overcome their fears and reach the top.
Sports Day
For the first time, Sports Day took during Health and Fitness Week and it was hugely
successful. The children took part in a round-robin of inclusive events that tested a
range of both fine motor and gross motor skills. The children's races were a success
again with all children and parents on the field supporting each other in the 40-60m
dash. It was great to see parents also participating in the festivities by taking part in
parent races and parent vs teacher tug-of-war. Inter-house games and dance workshops
were new addition to Sports Day this year which enabled children to have a full day of
being physically active and competitive.

Winning House: Frays
2nd: Chiltern
3rd: Mill
4th: Colne
Rounders
Once again Whitehall took a team of children to the District Rounders Tournament held
at Ryefield School. They played extremely well and made progress on last year's
performance. The team showed off the skills they had been working hard on in training
and progressed out of the group stages. Unfortunately we were knocked out in the
Quarter Finals, however we are really proud of the team's performance.
Sports Assembly
Congratulations to all those who received a medal for representing the school in a
competition this year. The number of you who received a medal, or several medals, was
astounding which really highlights how much sport is a part of our everyday life here at
Whitehall and how much we enjoy, and gain a lot from, sport. A special thank you must
go to all the dedicated teaching staff for running clubs and competitions throughout this
year! The fact you were able to see during this assembly how many of the school staff
still participate in sport as adults we hope is inspirational to you all. It was lovely to award
so many medals and show what can be achieve in sport if you work hard to succeed!
Well done to everybody at Whitehall for all their hard work and dedication to sport and
living a healthy lifestyle. You have all made this a very successful year and we look
forward to what next year brings.

Whitehall Junior School
As a school we have always strived to provide the best opportunities for all our pupils to lead a healthy and active lifestyle and the supply of the School Sport Funding is enabling us to do this with greater ease. From analysing feedback and looking at what the school already offers, we have allocated these funds towards various aspects to greater enhance what we already do and provide greater wealth of opportunities. The school spends the funding on: promoting healthy, active lifestyles; increasing numbers of children who participate in out of hours sports clubs; using coaches to introduce new sports to the school; use of coaches to team teach PE lessons with school staff as well as promoting healthy living daily at play and lunchtimes and through special health and fitness week activities. The money will be allocated accordingly in order to support the school to make sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all our children.
