Boys U11's Football Update

Mr Woodhouse, 27 Nov 2017

It has been a really busy half term of sport and in particular for the U11 Boys Football Team. They have had two matches one in the Cup against Arreton and the other in the League against Shalfleet.

On Tuesday 14th November the boys played Arreton in the Rural Schools Cup. The match started well for the team when they took an early lead. Arreton did not enjoy being behind and showed great determination and eventually levelled the score before half time.  1-1 at half time.

In the second half it was Arreton who took the lead for the first time in the game, but despite this set back, the Wroxall team battled hard and managed to equalise.  The remainder of the second half was end to end with both teams having many chances but it finished 2-2, extra time was needed to separate the sides.

5 minutes each way extra time. The boys were superb in extra time they defended brilliantly and in attack managed two really well worked goals.  Eventually winning the game 4-2.

The second of the two matches this half term was on Wednesday 22nd November away at Shalfleet.  The loss in the final of the Danone earlier in the year to Shalfleet had not been forgotten by the boys and they started the game determined to avenge the defeat.  Things went well when Callum scored in the first 1 minute and that's the way it stayed for much of the game. Half time 0-1.

The second half was much like the first with Wroxall doing most of the attacking but a good corner from Shalfleet wasn't cleared and they managed to scramble the ball in to equalise.

A late penalty shout for the team was turned down and the match finished 1-1.

In both matches the spirit and sportsman the boys showed was fantastic and they all deserve great credit. Their next match is on Friday 8th December against Holy Cross.
