Year 5 / 6 Football Tournament - The Arena, Bognor (05/12/23)

1st match against Southway.

We were unlucky to concede a goal early in the game. And then a second in an unfortunate own goal. Southway’s third goal was a well struck ball across the face of the goal and in off the post. Dylan scored to bring one back. In the dying seconds, Nestor scored on a rebound to make it 3-2.

2nd match against North Mundham. We started more positively after the strong end to the first match. A shot on their goal was saved, leading to a corner. Then another shot saved by their keeper. Nestor’s shot on goal was then denied by the woodwork (well, metal goal frame) and Jake tracked back to save a shot on our goal.

By half time, we had had possession of the ball for about 75% of the time, but just couldn’t score… until Jake spun and slotted it into the bottom left corner with his first touch. AJ made two great saves in quick succession to keep us ahead. A 1-0 finish.

3rd match against Rose Green. It was a more even game, but we let a goal in, and then Dylan was flattened and had to be helped off. Towards the end, we got more possession and then equalised from a corner, after their keeper made some great saves. 1-1.

4th match against Downview. They dominated the start of the game, but couldn’t break through our defence to start. Leo came off with a leg injury - something pulled? We played very well defensively to keep it 1-0 for the game, although we did have a few attempts on goal too.

Final match against Kingsham. The possession was fairly evenly divided, with neither side finding the opposition goal. We broke on the attack a few times, but Kingsham finally broke through and scored. We nearly pulled it back in the counterattack, but they saved it. Koa equalised a minute later. And then he scored a second, about 90 seconds later. Then seconds later, Jake slotted in a third, and AJ kept one out on their next attack. A final score of 3-1.

Overall, we came 3rd (based on goal difference and goals scored).
