Former World Champion addresses Newsome High School students

Newsome HS is participating in a Youth Sport Trust initiative called Healthy Lifestyles Champions. There are 9 year 8 students involved in the programme, who took part in a virtual conference in the Autumn term.  The idea is that the champions promote the value of physical activity to all students and put on a festival to encourage students to be physically active.

Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment due to Covid-19 so the students went on-line.  The session was introduced by Bradley who welcomed the guest speaker - former World Thai Boxing champion, Rachael Mackenzie.  All students then listened to an inspirational talk by Rachael who told them how she had broken into a male dominated sport against all the odds.  She explained how no one thought that she could succeed, how she was not wanted at the 'boys' gym' and about how many times she lost fights and was hurt in fights.  Despite all of her setbacks, Rachael would not give up and eventually achieved her dream of becoming a World Champion.

Rachael is an amazing inspiration to all who listen to her and her enthusiasm for physical activity and healthy lifestyles is second to none.

More of the Healthy Lifestyles Champions shared some ideas for physical activity and we all had the chance to play a game of human bopit!
