Activity details
A different kind of challenge activity based on a Maori tradition. Using tap sticks, pairs work together to create routines, these can be as simple as they want or more challenging with throwing and catching the tap sticks to each other. There are opportunities for pairs to work with others too, creating more complex routines in small groups.
- Number of participants: Pairs.
- Purpose of activity: Increase pupil’s activity levels through a range of different tap stick movements, high and low, tapping against each other’s, throwing and catching and working as a unit to coordinate movements.
- Including all pupils: STEP framework included.
- Pupil roles: Participant/choreographer.
- Space: Indoors/Outdoors. Ensure there is enough space for pupils to stretch high, forwards and backwards. When working with a larger group, pairs can stand in two rows alongside each other.
- Equipment: 1 pair of tap sticks per pupil.
