Yr 3 Netball vs SCPS

Chris, Becs & Jem, 2 Dec 2019

We took 3 girls only Netball teams to Streatham to play against 5 of their teams. Splitting our coaches across three courts, the following results were delivered! The warm up ran smoothly, and our girls showed that whilst they hadn't played much netball, their footwork was strong, and their ability to turn towards our attacking goal was finely tuned.  Where we need to work, is strengthening our passes, ball, wall & me, is a great way to do this, and we will show them that at our next training session.  Passing a ball to them at home, will encourage and improve their awareness and strength.

Yr 3 Netball vs SCPS

Honeywell Dark Blues: (5-1 win on aggregate)

The dark blue Honeywell team had a lot of fun today and won their games overall with an aggregate score of 5 - 1.  This team grew in confidence through the quarters and in the last quarter were comfortably able to move the ball towards their own goal with some pace to offset our opponent's defence. We found it harder to win the ball back when it was in their goal third and this is something we’ll work on.  Throughout the game our team also started to fight for the loose ball more, so two of the key objectives for today were achieved. Maya was deservedly named player of the day by Streatham & Clapham scoring 3 of the 5 goals with Maya scoring the other 2. Well done to the dark blue team - it was great to see them grow in confidence.

Honeywell Yellows: (5-5 draw on aggregate)

Our first match was against the Streatham Blues where we lost 0-5 with some great shooting from Streatham + Clapham. Honeywell worked hard in the centre court with our player of the match being awarded to our WA Catherine

We didn’t let this get us down, coming back to win our second game against the Streatham Black team 4-0 with some great shooting and player of the match being awarded to Arya GA.

In our final game we won 1-0 against our dark blue Streatham opponents with some great defending and passing of the ball really coming together as a team. Player of the match was awarded to Alia our GK.

Honeywell Reds: (1-7 loss on aggregate, but a 1-0 win in our last match)

The Honeywell Red team took to the court and were clear on which way they needed to pass the ball, they had however, forgotten how to run towards space, and instead defaulted to 'crabbing' i.e. moving sideways with their hands in the air hoping that the ball would reach them.  That was rectified with a quick coaching drill between the first and second game, and the movement in the second & third games was significantly improved!  Saskia hadn't had a chance to touch the ball in the first game, as the ball wasn't sent far enough down the court to reach her in our goal circle, so we moved her to Centre, where her energy and focus.  Flora and Kate gave Sasha a run for her title in terms of 'player who ran the most into space’. Ella Grace was moved into the goal circle to work with Kaden in our third match, to provide some height, and sunk a goal, giving Honeywell Reds their 1-0 victory. Players of the Match were Darya & Francesca (rightly so, as defenders, they worked the hardest, and the improvement they saw throughout the game showed that they learnt enormously from the match play).
